SISTER CLAIRE-BERNADETTE FILLE DE LA CROIX (MADELEINE MORIN) October 11, 1915 - December 9, 2000 On Saturday, December 9, 2000, at the age of 85, in the 63rd year of Religious Life and following a lengthy illness, Sister Claire-Bernadette, passed away peacefully at the Provincial House of Les Filles de la Croix, at 66 Moore Ave. Sister Claire-Bernadette was predeceased by her parents, Laurent Morin and Pamela Joncas; seven brothers, Paul, Jean-Louis (Marguerite Poliquin), Andre (Antonia Gagnon), Marcel, Augustin (Edessa Gauthier), Charles (Doris Gregson), Paul and six sisters, Catherine, Laurence (Armand Lauzon), Aline, Annette, Jeanne and Lucille (Soeur Claire St-Laurent). She leaves to mourn her passing, one brother Francois (Yvette Lemieux) and three sisters, Claire (Soeur Bernadette St-Jean), Reine, Bernadette (Soeur Claire Lucille) as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Sister Claire-Bernadette was born in Montreal, P.Q. She became a Fille de la Croix on August 15, 1938 in La Puye, France and professed her final commitment to serve the Lord in Religious Life, in St-Adolphe, Man., on August 15, 1943. A teacher by profession, Sister served in that capacity for thirty years in a variety of areas in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Quebec. Everywhere she went, Sister was greatly appreciated for her genuine interest in the children she taught, and for the care and dedication she brought to the preparation of her classes. From 1968 to 1980, Sister served for 12 years as a missionary in Brazil. There, she was able to share her God-given gifts of love, compassion and solidarity with the less fortunate and the sick. She also shared her strong, unshakeable faith. Here again, she wove lasting friendships with the families who benefitted from her work. Illness forced her to return to Canada in 1980, but her missionary spirit and her concern for the needs of the people there inspired her to collect clothing and other supplies which she and her three sisters prepared for shipment to Brazil on a regular basis. From 1982 to 1999, Sister Claire-Bernadette was involved in pastoral work in the parish of Immaculate Conception, in Winnipeg. There, she taught catechism classes to children of Portuguese decent and formed several adult volunteer teachers. To this day, she is remembered with love and admiration by many families of that parish. The cancer that had stopped her short in Brazil, in 1980, caught up with her again in 1999. She faced this new challenge with the same courage, determination and faith in God. Sister Claire-Bernadette will be remembered as someone who loved people, loved life, loved her family, loved her Religious family and loved God. Hers was a simple ordinary life, made extraordinary by the intensity and the authenticity of her love and dedication. From her life we all can learn that love really is the only goal worth pursuing and the only gift worth giving. May she enjoy eternal peace. Les Filles de la Croix wish to express their heartfelt thanks to the Infirmary Staff and to the Home Care Staff for the loving and dedicated care they provided for our Sister during her illness. Prayers for Sister Claire-Bernadette will be held on Tuesday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the Provincial House of Les Filles de la Croix, at 66 Moore Ave., Winnipeg. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 13 at 1:30 p.m. at 66 Moore Ave. Interment will follow in St. Adolphe, Man. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897 - 4665
