NICK KOHUT Peacefully, after a lengthy battle with cancer, Nick Kohut, age 77 passed away at Morris on Saturday, December 9, 2000. Nick will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Elsie; his sons, Larry (Joanne) and Dennis (Elaine), both of Winnipeg; his daughters, Audrey Recksiedler (Grant), of Winkler and Kathy Kohut (Gregor Smith), of Kingston Ontario; his step-daughter Dixie Ritchot (Paul) of Winnipeg and 9 grandchildren, Carrie, Jason and Kristy Ritchot, James and Alan Kohut, Carmen and Kyle Recksiedler, Sonya and Karl Kohut. Nick was born May 29, 1923 at Stuartburn, Manitoba and grew up on the family farm. During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Canadian Army from 1943 - 1945. In 1948 he married Doris Salamandyk and they established a home and family farm in the Stuartburn area. Nick started working at the Tolstoi Creamery in 1954 and completed a Dairy Science course at the University of Manitoba shortly after. In 1957, the family moved to Dunnville Ontario, where Nick was employed by Puritan Dairy. During his employment there, he was promoted to plant superintendent. In 1968, the family moved back to Manitoba, where Nick and Doris purchased a Marshall Wells franchise hardware store in Morris. Nick re-married in 1974 to Elsie Mandzie and he and Elsie continued to operate the hardware store until 1983 when the business was sold and he retired. In his retirement, he took up the game of golf, which became his passion and in the summer months, he could be found on the Morris Golf course almost every morning. He looked forward to participating in as many golf tournaments as he could. He attended many hockey games, curling events and dance recitals to watch his grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Manness, the nurses and staff at the Morris Hospital for the dedicated care they provided for Nick, as well as Dr. Maxwell and the Victoria General Hospital Oncology unit. Funeral Mass will be held on December 13, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Maurice Catholic Church in Morris. There will be no prior viewing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements entrusted to: Morris Funeral Home
