DEREK FREDERICK HOOGSTRATEN
Date of Passing: Dec 11, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDEREK FREDERICK HOOGSTRATEN On December 11, 2000, Derek Frederick Hoogstraten lost his battle with life and passed away at the farm in Winnipeg Beach. We hold close our memories of Derek as a kind and caring brother, a treasured friend and father who loved his wife and daughters very dearly. Derek grew up on Queenston Street in Winnipeg but his spiritual home was always at "the lake." His happiest days were spent there from the time he was a child, and as an adult, he always returned to find some solace, some adventure and the inspiration for his art. Derek leaves to mourn him his wife Judith; daughters, Saskia, Uta and Kalika; his brother Taylor; sisters, Jane and Ann, their families and many sorrowing friends and relatives. We grieve his death, but rejoice that Derek is well at last. "Darkling I listen; and for many a time I have been half in love with easeful Death, Calld him soft names in many a mused rhyme, To take into the air my quiet breath; Now more than ever it seems rich to die, To cease upon the midnight with no pain While thou art pouring forth thy soul abroad In such an ecstasy! Still wouldst thou sing, and I have ears in vain- To thy high requiem become a sod." (Keats: Ode to a Nightingale) A private memorial will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Selkirk Crisis Unit, 448 Queen Ave., Selkirk, Man., R1A 1G1. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
