VERNON OLIVER SMITH Suddenly on December 12, 2000, Vernon Smith, passed away. A beloved husband to Lorraine and cherished father to Carl (Shelley), Shaun (Jasmine) and Brad, he will deeply be missed. His absence will be felt by his siblings, Joyce, Lillian (Les), Alvin (Cecilia), Harvey (Marion), Barbara (Wayne) sister-in-law Lena. He is predeceased by his sister Ada and brother Tom as well as his parents. Vernon went to school in both Gunton and Stonewall. After a brief government job, he began a career at Bristol Aerospace where he worked for over 37 years. He also served as a member on the board of directors at the South Interlake Golf and Country Club. His affection for the outdoors led to pastimes filled with golf and travelling. He enjoyed curling, fixing cars, and was an avid reader. He took pride in his family and maintained a quiet but deep love for the people around him. A private viewing will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall, on Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place on Friday, December 15 at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation at 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
