Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR JOHN McMILLAN With deep sadness we announce that Arthur McMillan passed away suddenly on December 18, 2000, at the age of 80 years. Art will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 53 years, Kathleen; his son Bruce and daughter-in-law Jane of Winnipeg; his daughter Betty and son-in-law Jim Tobias of Sherwood Park; grandchildren, Ryan McMillan, Kirsten Tobias and Sean Tobias; his brothers, Bill and Angus and their families and extended family in Dryden and Thunder Bay. Art was born April 4, 1920, and raised on the family farm in Dryden, Ont. He enlisted in 1943, serving with the South Saskatchewan Regiment and the Royal Engineers in the Second World War in the United Kingdom and Continental Europe (France and Germany). As a certified hoisting engineer Arthur worked as a heavy equipment operator for different companies in Northern Ontario until joining Trans Canada Pipelines in 1958; starting as an equipment operator and working up to various supervisory positions in Dryden and Cornwall, Ont., Winnipeg, Man., Geraldton and Kenora, Ont., before commencing early retirement in April 1981. Not able to sit still, Art did contract work as a welding inspector on various pipeline construction projects ranging from south Saskatchewan to northern Alberta and N.W.T., culminating in the pipeline project from the British Columbia mainland to Vancouver Island. In between, Art and Kay enjoyed travelling, visiting their many friends and family across the country. He was a 50 year member of Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge, Khartum Temple, a regular Red Cross Blood Donor, member of St. Chads Anglican Church, donating much to charity. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 22, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Chads Anglican Church, Assiniboia Christian Centre, 3390 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, with the Reverend Greg Clark officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall. The record of generous and good lives runs like vines around beautiful memories, every sweet, unselfish act is now a treasured, perfumed flower... character survives, goodness lives, and love is forever.
