SHELLEY JANE ALSOP (nee HOLMBERG) It is with deep sorrow we announce that on December 7, 2000 at Hamilton General Hospital, Shelley passed away peacefully in her sleep. Shelley will always be loved, cherished and remembered by her daughters, Jessica, Rebecca and Cristin; her mother Freda Holmberg; sisters, Melody Misisco (Nick), Candace Boily (Ray) and Leanne Burkowski (Norman) and her former husband Jim. Shelley will also be sadly missed by her nieces, Nicole and Janine Misisco, Alyssa and nephew Paul Boily. She was predeceased by her loving father George in 1996. Shelley was born in Selkirk, MB on May 18, 1950 and was raised in Tyndall. She attended Beausejour High School, graduating at the top of her class in 1968. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History from the University of Winnipeg and marrying Jim Alsop, they moved to Britain and began their life together. Residing in Cambridge, London and Wales from 1974 to 1984, Shelley and Jim started their family. Shelleys girls were the loves of her life and she was always fiercely proud and supportive of them and their father. The Alsop family moved to Hamilton, ON in 1984, and when the girls were a little older, Shelley decided to further her education in an area that had always held a keen interest to her, books. She attended Mohawk College and received her librarian diploma in 1994. After her graduation Shelley enjoyed working for the Canada Centre for Inland Waters. Every year she found the time to come home to Manitoba to be with her parents, sisters and old friends. Shelley will be remembered by those fortunate enough to have known her for her cheerful spirit, love of life and strong commitment to family and friends. Words cannot describe how much we will miss her. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., January 6, 2001 at Sobering Funeral Chapel, Beausejour, MB. Please phone (204) 268-3510 for information. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Shelleys memory to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation.
