Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJESSIE EDYTHE FOWLER Peacefully, at the Baldur Manor on December 16, in her 95th year. A dear, gentle, and kindhearted aunt, Jessie is survived by her sisters-in-law, Vivian Sundell and Virginia Fowler; her nieces and nephews who deeply cherished her, Scott (Sandra) Fowler, Anne (John Fowler), Evelyn Fowler, Margaret DesBrisay, Sandra (John) Rigaux, Sandy (Judy) Fowler, Janet Fowler, Doris (Grant) Heaver, Charlotte (Bob) Fleischaker, Cathy Fillmore (Rick Handlon), Parker (Glenda) Fillmore, Lynn (Dan) Hartwell and John Fowler. Aunt Jessie was deeply loved by her many grandnieces and nephews, and she spent many happy times with John, Rob (Fleischaker), Susan (Ateah) and her children, Alex and Zachery, Andrea and Katie (Fowler), Jessie Fillmore; Charlotte and Charlie (Fillmore-Handlon) David (Halligan), and Sandy and Billy (Heaver). She was predeceased by her parents, Margaret Playfair and Alexander Fowler; her sisters, Florence Fowler, Dora Fowler, Margaret (Otto) Skardal, Catherine (Charles) Fillmore, and her brothers, Murray (Jessie), Ralph (Edythe), George, Frank and William Fowler and nephew, John Fowler. Born in Baldur, Manitoba, Jessie completed her education in Winnipeg, attending Wesley College in 1925 to 1926 and receiving her R.N. from the General Hospital School of Nursing in 1929. Jessie later married Dr. Herbert Meltzer and fondly remembered their days working together at the Manitoba Sanitarium in Ninette. She was a dedicated nurse who worked for many years at the Manitoba Sanitarium, the Winnipeg General Hospital, and in later years, with Dr. Wm. J. Boyd at the Silver Heights Medical Clinic. Throughout her many years in Winnipeg, Jessie actively and generously supported the St. Stephens Broadway United Church. She had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing in the choir in earlier days. She was a strong supporter of the arts and for many years attended the Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Winnipeg Symphony with her sister Dora. Jessie was a warm, generous, and gracious woman who was adored by her family and many close friends. She took opportunities to travel abroad with her dear friends and maintained a close correspondence with them until her later years. Jessie will be lovingly remembered for her elegance, gaiety, and commitment to family, especially the long hours that she spent rocking her adored nieces and nephews and telling them their bedtime stories. Theres rosemary, thats for remembrance; pray, love, remember. (Shakespeare) The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Baldur Manor, especially Brenda, for their loving and thoughtful care. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29 at 1:00 p.m. in the Baldur United Church with Rev. Irene Onuch Penale officiating. Interment will take place in the family plot in the Baldur Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers are: Sandra Rigaux, Janet Fowler, Doris Heaver, Charlotte Fleischaker, Cathy Fillmore, Sandy Fowler and Parker Fillmore. Memorial donations may be made in Jessies memory to the George and Alexander Fowler Scholarship Fund, Baldur, Manitoba, R0K 0B0, or to a charity of their choice.
