HELEN SCHELLENBERG On Thursday, December 21, 2000, Helen Schellenberg, of the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, passed away peacefully, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 95 years. She leaves to cherish her memory a brother Pat Hendricks of Vancouver; four stepchildren and their families; eight nieces and nephews and their families, who affectionately referred to her as Aunt Henna; her cousin Helen and other cousins, many friends and neighbours. Helen was born on January 21, 1905 in , Manitoba near Gretna, MB. She was the eighth child in a family of 12 children of John and Maria Hendricks. Helen grew up and went to school in Gretna where she graduated from M.C.I. and also went to Normal school to obtain her teaching degree. She also attended Winnipeg Bible College, worked as a receptionist and nurse in the local doctors office for several years. She loved the Lord and placed her faith in Him when she was quite young. She was baptized in the Bergthaler Church. She met Martin Hiebert during the time she was teaching in Homewood, MB. They were married in April of 1939. Martin later had a stroke and passed away in 1958. After a period of widowhood, Helen met Peter Schellenberg. They were married in November of 1965. They lived in Saskatoon for a short time and then moved to Steinbach, where her sister Kay lived. Peter became ill with cancer and passed away in May 1985. She continued to live in Steinbach and spent a lot of time with her sister Kay. In spite of this she was very lonely and so invited her cousin Helen Heinrichs to come and live with her. Helen was a great companion to her. In May of 2000, because of failing health, Helen was moved into Rest Haven Nursing Home, where she stayed until her death. We know that Helen is with the Lord now. We will miss her! Someday we hope to see her sunny smile and hear her cheerful laughter up in Heaven as she welcomes each of us home. The family would like to thank the many homecare givers and private duty workers, doctors, nurses, neighbours, pastors and friends who have helped to care for her in some way! Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach with Pastor John Neufeld officiating. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Steinbach Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel Steinbach, (204) 326 - 1351
