Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJANIS MARGARET DEMCHUK RUNGE 1943 - 2000 Janis was born in Winnipeg on December 26, 1943 to Elizabeth and Tony Demchuk. She was the youngest of three daughters, dearly loved by all. Janis attended Weston School, Cecil Rhodes, Sargent Park and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. She earned a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg in 1964; a Masters and later a Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Toronto in 1977. In 1983 she studied Art Journalism at the Banff School of Fine Arts. A number of her articles were published in Art Journals. Janis life was a quest for truth and beauty. Whether it was through studying, teaching, writing, researching, cycling, hiking or working as the Executive Assistant for a small but mighty computer development company, she continued and this quest - always attempting to maintain that fierce integrity (learned from both her father and mother) that sometimes led to pain and loss. Janis had a big mind - but it was centered in the heart - with a complete love for and attention to the natural world. She grieved that so many would show disrespect for planet Earth. Janis brought insight and laughter into our lives. Her sense of humour was spiked with a gesture of kindness. She had a gracious generosity and always found ways to help others feel better about themselves. Janis was one of those rare people who caused others to see the wonder and beauty, the depth and magic of life. Her life was a precious treasure, that she shared with us for oh so short a time. That treasure will always be cherished - it is a part of us. Elizabeth and Helen and Irene and her family appreciate greatly the outpouring of love and support in the loss of a dear daughter and sister, and aunt.
