Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2000
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHARON MARGARET RIACH August 4, 2000 - December 25, 2000 Much too soon, Sharon peacefully joined her son (Brian Keith) mother (Margaret) and father (Elmer) her brother (Don) her mother-in-law (Lillie) and her sister-in-law (Karen). Sharon began her final journey in the home she cherished, surrounded by her family whom she so dearly loved. Sadly, the love of family and friends, and the many prayers offered in her name over the last several months, were not enough to save her. Sharon was born and raised in the Greenridge area, attending a local school and Dominion City High School. In the family tradition, she chose a career in education. After two years of teaching grade one in Dominion City. Sharon married in 1967 and began her family. She gave three wonderful children every advantage she could provide for their start in life and then returned to teaching at Parc La Salle School in St. Norbert. Sharon adored children and was a dedicated teacher. She enjoyed reading, gardening, flowers, and was gifted with many talents. Sharons art and craft projects always put a sparkle in the eye of her students, and the homes and Christmas trees of her many friends have been adorned with samples of her work. Finally, after more than 22 years of teaching Sharon decided to retire. In life, Sharon set her priorities and lived them, enjoying each and every moment. Her main interests always involved her family, friends, and home. None-the-less, Sharon looked to her retirement as the opportunity to expand theses interests and to explore some of lifes other pleasures. Unfortunately, these dreams were disrupted when Sharon was diagnosed with cancer on the very day of her retirement celebration. Sharons life was one of courage, leadership, love, understanding, and compassion. She quietly but undeniably touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her family, friends, neighbours, coworkers from Parc La Salle School and the many children who shared a year or two with Sharon in her grade three or four class. Sharon dedicated much of her life to family, to friends, and to the teaching of young children. The love, encouragement, kindness and tenderness she shared with everyone will be particularly missed by her husband of almost 34 years, Brian; her children Sherri (Neil), Kristin (Jason), and Kent (Lisa) and her grandchildren Keagan, Shaniah, and Cassidy. Her brother David (Bev) and sister Dorothy (Neil) will miss her terribly; as will her father-in-law (Lome/Curly), her brothers-and-sisters-in-law, Duaine (Lynette), Gayle (Rod), Art, Marilyn (Claude)her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Many special friends and family who shared love with Sharon in her life, along with help and encouragement throughout her recent illness, will also share deeply in the loss. "Life is eternal; and love is immortal; and death is only a horizon; and a horizon is nothing save the limit of out sight." (Rossiter Worthington Raymond, 1940 - 1918) The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who treated Sharon with respect and compassion during her illness; especially Dr. Kim Wiebe, who was always there when we needed help or advice, and Dr. P. Bedder, who had been Sharons family doctor for many years. Funeral service will be held at the Greenridge United Church on Friday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m. Interment of Sharons cremated remains will follow in the Greenridge Cemetery. Sharon regularly contributed to the Heart Foundation, Cancer Society and Diabetes Foundation. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of these charities. The arrangements are in the care of Morris Funeral Home, 204-746-2451.
