She had many high class stake winners throughout her career. Included among her many awards and honors is being the first woman elected to the American thoroughbred trainers club. She was extremely well liked and admired throughout the International Thoroughbred Horse Business. Over the many years she bred, owned and trained thoroughbred horses in Canada, U.S.A., England, France and Germany. In Canada she trained at Polo Park in Winnipeg, and Woodbine in Toronto. In the U.S. at Belmont, Aqueduct, and Saratoge in New York, Santa Anita and Hollywood Parks in California. Pimilco in Maryland, Hialia Gulfstream and Calder in Florida. Arlington Park in Chicago, Kenneland Park and Churchill Downs Inc. in Kentucky. Wilma also supervised her extensive thoroughbred horse breeding operations in Canada and France as well as Florida and Kentucky in the U.S. As to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will take place. Id like the memory of me to be a happy one. Id like to leave a after glow of smiles when life is done. Id like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. Id like the tears of those I leave to dry before the sun, Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

As soon as I could walk ,my Auntie Wilma had me in the stalls at the racing barns. This led to a lifelong love of horses including two of my own. Many of our summer vacations were spent with her wherever she happened to be racing, usually New York and Florida. So many wonderful memories of getting up at four to go to the track with her! On my desk, I have a large photo of her and my Mom, Bea Nelson in the Winners Circle with one of her many winning horses Infusion! She was always such a glamorous hero to me and I so often think of her and miss her. Loads of love, Auntie Wilma, Linda Sproule - Posted by: Linda sproule (Niece) on: Mar 01, 2015

I loved and admired auntie Wilma - was delighted when she and aunt Dodie came to our youngest daughter Hope's first birthday party in Miami in 1980. Lost track of her after our move back to Ontario... Think of her always when I hear the song Autumn Leaves as she told me it was her favourite. I remember going to the track at Hialeah to watch her train -beautiful and smart. Sorry I didn't know of her passing sooner. She and my dad had a great relationship. - Posted by: Cynthia Gall(Chesney) (Niece) on: Mar 01, 2015
