LAINE COAD Peacefully, on December 20, 2000, Laine Allen Coad passed away at St. Anthonys Hospital in The Pas. Laine was born in Oakwood, Ont. in 1911. He moved to Cereal, Alta. at an early age with his parents as pioneer settlers, but after several dry years in succession, they moved on to Wadena, Sask. in 1923 and eventually settled in The Pas in 1928, bringing a railway car of farm equipment with them since there was no road. They soon acquired land along the Carrot River which became known as the "home place." Laine continued to live on and farm this property until ill health forced him to retire to town in 1980. He was very proud that his grandson Desi took over the farming operation at that time. Dad remained interested in the price of cattle and weather conditions until the last week of his life. Dad took pride in watching the development of both The Pas and the Opasquia Farming Settlement. He represented his area on the Kelsey School Division board when amalgamation took place in the late 1950s and he was active in farm organizations to improve farming conditions in the valley. He always exercised and appreciated the right to vote, though he never found a political party which he felt knew anything about farm policy. Laine is survived by his wife Margaret Coad of Calgary; his daughter Jessie (Frank) Parker of St. Albert, Alta.; his son Marvin of The Pas, his daughter Isabel (Ed) Tymofichuk of LaSalle; his grandchildren, Ken (Cheryl), Heather, Holly, Desmin (Lesa), Garth (Yolande), Carmen (Guy), Camille, Chris, Karen, Susan; his great-grandchildren, Courtney, Evan, Katie, Braden, Brie and Arize; one sister Evelyne Wilson of North Bay and numerous cousins in Ontario and Alberta. He was predeceased by his parents and one sister in infancy. The funeral was held Saturday, December 23 at Westminster United Church in The Pas with interment at Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Desmin, Garth and Camille Coad, Chris and Karen Tymofichuk, and grandson-in-law Guy Fedora. The family requests that in place of flowers donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation of Canada or to a charity of your choice. The family extends a very sincere and special thanks to all the Home Care workers, the wonderful staff at St. Pauls residence, and the many close and special friends who provided loving care in recent years. Dad was truly grateful for your compassion and companionship. Sleep well, Dad. You have earned your rest.
