HELEN DAVIDSON MACKIE (nee THOMSON) Peacefully, at the Maples Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, on December 26, 2000, Helen Davidson Mackie, only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Davidson Thomson. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Helen supplemented her education with vocal study and as a chorister in the Choir of Knox United Church, of which her father was the director. Following graduation and a period of employment with Canadian Westinghouse, Helen moved to Toronto to become Secretary to the Registrar of the Toronto Conservatory of Music. Later she was employed with the Canadian Bankers Association in Toronto and Montreal. In 1961 she returned to Winnipeg where she was secretary to the Rector of St. Pauls College. Helen married Thomas G. Mackie in 1966. Following a short residence in Winnipeg they moved to Victoria, B.C. where Helen worked in various provincial government departments. Finally Helen returned to Winnipeg, residing for a short time at the Wellesley/Wellington on Grant Avenue until increasing health care needs necessitated her move to the Maples. Predeceased by her husband Tom, brother W. Kenneth Thomson and nephew W. Davidson Thomson. Helen is survived by two brothers, Edward C. (Donna) of Connecticut and Whytewold, Stewart M. (Phyllis Thomson) of Winnipeg; nieces Dr. Ann McGuire (Dr. John), Perth, Australia; Anna Thomson, New York; and Celia Thomson (Gary Sywake) nephew Andrew Thomson (Mary-Anne) and Christopher Thomson (Sheryl) Winnipeg; Dr. Grant Thomson (Dr. Liane Philpotts), Connecticut; grandnieces and nephews, Jennifer and Sean McGuire, Alastair and Fraser Thomson, Paisley, Cameron and Bryce Thomson, William Davidson, Herbert Hugo Thomson, and Matthew and Jacqueline Thomson. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 29 in the Dr. Fred Kerr Memorial Chapel, Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St., Mrs. Catherine Kinsman, Staff Associate for Pastoral Care officiating, assisted by the Rev. Tony Harwood-Jones, rector St. Georges Anglican Church, Crescentwood. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helens memory may be made to a charity of your choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
