DOUGLAS GEORGE GATESON SR. November 17, 1906 - December 27, 2000 His family wishes to announce the passing of their father and grandfather, Douglas George Gateson, Sr. He will be missed by his two sons, Douglas Jr. (Irene) and Roger (Jane) and by grandsons, Ian and Andrew. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary, in May,1996. Born in London, England Doug came to Canada as a child. He began work in the mail room of the National Grain Co. in 1922 at the age of 16, and worked there for 49 years finally retiring as office manager. Most of that time he walked to work during which time he developed his characteristic fast pace and long stride. A family man, he cherished his home life and especially his 66 years of marriage to Mary. They spent many happy hours together at home and at the cottage at Sandy Hook. The cottage on which Doug spent endless hours building and repairing was a matter of great pride to him and has been enjoyed by the family for 54 years. Poppa loved his grandsons and had great fun with them particularly in their early childhood. Recent health problems finally overcame him in spite of his indomitable spirit. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be conducted by Rev. P. Barnett Tuesday, January 2 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Peters Anglican Church at the corner of Elm and Grant.
