MARION AGNES LOUISE (MacBain) AIKEN Marion Agnes Louise (MacBain) Aiken, beloved wife of Donald L. Aiken, passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on December 27, 2000. She was born August 5, 1924, in Regina, Sask., eldest daughter of John and Norlaine MacBain (nee Burnett). She is survived by her husband; her daughter, Norlaine Thomas (Jeff Thomas) two sisters, Helen Walker of Saskatoon, Sask., and Jean Thain (Chris Thain) of Winnipeg and grandchildren, Heather, Garnet and Katherine Thomas. She also leaves to mourn niece Caroll Thain (Martin Rempel, Emily and Matthew) nephews, Greg Thain (Jennifer), Glenn Thain, Lee Walker (Colleen, Dylan and Kailey) and Darren Walker; cousins, Jane Maurer (Owen), Donelda Melanchuk (of Maryfield, Sask.) Mary Joan Eastman (of Hartney, Man.) and John E. Vibert (of London, Ont.) and sister-in-law, Doris Walsh. Marion attended public and secondary school in Redvers, Saskatchewan, and received a B.A. degree from the University of Manitoba. She was employed in provincial and federal government departments, at Dryden District General Hospital and Hurtig Publishers. Marion and Don were married in Winnipeg in 1962. Their daughter was born in Dryden and the family moved to Winnipeg in 1966. She enjoyed theatre, music and her garden and was deeply interested in improving the family home. She and her husband were members of a dinner club in the Fort Richmond area for a number of years, during which she was able to use her considerable interest and skill in cooking. She enjoyed camping trips and several trips on which she accompanied Don on his assignments to a number of destinations. She loved summertime and flowers, and was never happier than when sitting on a hot July day on the deck admiring the garden and the songs of the birds. She was interested in genealogy and history, particularly that of the Northwest Mounted Police in which her grandfather had served for many years. Marion served in the RCAF Reserve with the rank of Flying Officer, and later as a lieutenant in the armed forces reserve, Canadian Intelligence Corps. Marion will be sadly missed by her friends and family. Sincere appreciation to staff members of Central Park Lodge and Golden Links Lodge where she resided for several years, and also to the staff at Emergency and 4th floor of the Victoria General Hospital for their kindness during her last few days. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Wednesday, January 3, 2001, at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., with a reception to follow at the Thomas residence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 2H8., or the Donald L. Aiken Bursary in Education at the University of Manitoba. LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street 949-4860
