JOHN GEORGE BOOTH ILIFFE "JACK" On Tuesday, December 26, 2000, Jack, the beloved companion of Barbara Thomasson, died at the St. Boniface Hospital. Jack was predeceased by his wife Barbara Jean in 1990 and father George D. Illiffe in 1967. Jack is survived by his mother May of Souris, MB; brother Barry and wife Donna (their daughter Lori Iliffe (Ken) (Brittany, Devon and Justin)), their son Andy Iliffe (Lorraine) (Danielle and Ryan), their son Doug Iliffe (Lindsay) and by his sister Averill (Ralph) Whitfield of Souris, MB (their daughter Pam (Todd) Walker (Caleigh, Brynna and Seth)), (their son Chris Whitfield), (their daughter Daphne (Grant) Schmidt (Spencer)) and (their son Rod Whitfield). Also surviving are Barbaras family, brother-in-law Glenn Adams (Ken and Kathy Adams and their children Kimberly and Kristie), Maureen (Jeremy and Jessie) and cousins David Boyd, Rick Boyd, Val Wood and Michael Wood. Jack was born in Winnipeg and received his formal education at Queenston Elementary School, Robert H. Smith Junior High School and Kelvin High School. He entered Engineering at the University of Manitoba and graduated in 1953 with a BSc. In Electrical Engineering. During his university years he had summer jobs at the Manitoba Power Commission, the Winnipeg Electric Company and the Winnipeg Hydro. He was employed as a graduate engineer with the Winnipeg Hydro in 1953. In 1955, Jack began his employment with the Manitoba Hydro as an engineer in the Relay and Plant Metering Department. In 1957 he transferred to the Engineering and Construction Division as a relay specialist and he remained in that position until his retirement in 1986. Jack was a past member of CEA, APEM, ELC and a past member and chairperson of IEEE. Jack was an avid curler. He played on teams at the Strathcona Curling Club, the Granite Curling Club and the Charleswood Curling Club and at various clubs with the Winnipeg Hydro Curling Club. He had been a theatre goer at the Manitoba Theatre Centre for forty-one years. Travelling was Jacks passion. He travelled the world to know its people and their culture. Each trip was planned, enjoyed and recorded on film for future appreciation. Jack enjoyed designing and creating. His home and garden evidenced his desire to make things work. The skill was greatly appreciated by his family, friends and neighbours. Above all Jack was a loving companion, a great uncle and brother, a fine son, a generous friend and a person who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. According to his expressed wishes, no service will be held. Instead, his family invites you to reception in Jacks honour between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2001 at the Granite Curling Club, 22 Mostyn Place. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, MB., R3E 0V9, to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8 or to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2L 1X3.
