HELGA JACKSON Peacefully on Friday, December 22, 2000, at the Lions Prairie Manor, Helga Jackson of Langruth, Man., widow of the late Howard Jackson, passed away at the age of 97 years. Helga was born on March 13, 1903, daughter of Godfinna and Sigfors Bjarnarson at Big Point where her parents farmed for many years. Helga took her early education in Big Point, Langruth High School and then went onto Brandon, Man., for her graduation at the Normal School for teachers there. She had her first teaching assignment near Birnie, Man., where she met and married her future husband Howard Jackson in April 1923, and then they moved back to Big Point to take over her fathers farm, where their first three children were born and raised. In later years they moved to the Langruth District where their youngest son Jack was born. Helga went back to her teaching profession in September 1943 where she remained until her retirement in June 1968. They lived in the town of Langruth until her husbands death in February 1976. Helga was a life member of the Langruth Lutheran Church and served on many committees such as the Ladies Aid group and the seniors Happy Gang. She moved to Portage la Prairie where she kept up her beautiful knitting (socks especially) and senior centre card playing with friends until the time of her death at the Lions Manor. Helga had many friends and pupils who will always remember her for her kindness and thoughtful ways. Predeceased by her husband Howard; son Thomas Leonard in April 1991; brothers, Bjarni, Bjorn, Gudmann, Karl, Valdi; sisters, Gunna Bjarnarson, Thorbyorg Hjorliefson, Gudlaug Erlendson, she leaves to mourn her passing her son John Howard Jackson Jr. (Marilyn) of Chemainus, B.C.; daughters, Dorothy (Edward) Nickel of Waterloo, Ont., Grace (Bill) Frazer of Sicamous, B.C.; 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by Dorothy, Grace and Jack and their families, her special niece Inez Rinn (her main man) as she called her. Funeral service will be held in the Grace Lutheran Church, Langruth, on Thursday, January 4, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Norris Nordin officiating. Interment will follow in the Langruth Cemetery.
