JOHN ROBERT MacDONALD March 16, 1914 - December 28, 2000 With great sorrow we announce the sudden passing of John Robert Mac Donald on December 28, 2000, with his loving companion, Doris Nagel, at his side. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ellen Foye; beloved parents Isabella and John; sister Flora Margaret and brother Douglas. He will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family, sons, Glenn and Keith; many nieces and nephews especially Elaine, Douglas and Lorna, great-nephew Isaac, great-niece Rebacca, sister-in-law Kay (Kate) Mac Donald, extended family members and numerous friends and acquaintances worldwide. John was born and raised in St. James where he was educated and participated in sports. He and his brother were well known as the pitcher and back catcher duo on the local baseball teams. John served overseas in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. The majority of his working career was with Canada Post. Upon retiring, he and his wife Foye, often accompanied by friends or relatives, enjoyed traveling to many foreign destinations. He also enjoyed participating in community activities, particularly the Thistle Club lawn bowling, visiting and playing cards with numerous friends and acquaintances. In later years, he enjoyed activities with the CNIB where he met his loving companion Doris who cast a beautiful light on his life. Throughout his life, John provided steadfast caring and support to his sons and deceased brothers children. He is particularly remembered and honoured for his guidance, love and joie de vivre that added to all family gatherings. A memorial service celebrating the life of John Mac Donald will be held January 3, 2001, at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., at 3:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens with reception to follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Johns memory can be made to CNIB, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choice, as he had supported many. As John himself would have said: "Here today, gone tomorrow, Enjoy your lives and have no sorrows." Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
