Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANN PALL "PAUL" THOMASSON 1914 - 2001 Peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2001, Johann Pall "Paul" Thomasson, age 86 years, at the Oakview Nursing Home, Winnipeg, surrounded by loved ones. Predeceased by his parents, Arni and Ingunn Thomasson; three brothers, Jonathan, Thomas, and Steini; one stepbrother Beggi Hallgrimson; three sisters, Gunna, Emma Danielson, and Rosa Hjartarson; three brothers-in-law, Leo Danielson, Hjortur Hjartarson, and Laugi (Slivers) Beckman. Survived by one brother Hannes and wife Kristin of Winnipeg; two sisters, Kaye Breckman of Winnipeg; Helga and husband Jim Block of 1-6 District, and sister-in-law Herborg Thomasson of Winnipeg. Paul was born and raised in the 1-6 area, southwest of Morden, on May 18, 1914. He attended Elk Creek and Lindal Schools. He worked for several farmers, then drove for Lundar Transfer, before returning to work on the family farm. Pauls favourite pastimes included playing for dances, curling, baseball, hunting, and being an active member of the community. He quit farming in 1993 due to ill health and in 1996 entered Oakview Nursing Home. His quick wit, teasing, and jolly good nature endeared all his nieces and nephews who spent many holidays at the farm. Sadly missed by all family and friends. Goda nott, elskan! Thanks to the staff at Oakview Nursing Home for all their love and care given to Paul. Pallbearers will be Jack Olafson, Lawrence Gillis, Miles Gillis, Johnny Gillis, Lorry Einarson, and Joe Olafson. Honorary pallbearers will be all Pauls nieces and nephews. Public viewing will be held at Wiebe Funeral Chapel, Morden, Thursday, January 4, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, January 5 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at the 1-6 Icelandic Cemetery Friday, January 5 at 11:30 a.m. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Wiebe Funeral Chapel Morden with Rev. Jim Penhale officiating. If friends so desire donations may be made to the 1-6 Community Hall care of Miles Gillis, R.R. 2, Thornhill, MB R0G 2T0.
