GERALD KLYMKIW On Tuesday, January 2, 2001, Gerald peacefully passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. Gerald was predeceased by his wife Mary (1990) parents, Alex (1959) and Katherine (1979), and sister Phyllis Chopp (2000). Left to cherish his memory are his sister Anne Hoffman and sister-in-law Pearl Sysak of Winnipeg; his special uncle and aunt, Nick and Anne Stupnisky of Rossburn, and his other special uncle Michael Koroscil and family of Detroit, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends. Gerald will be greatly missed by his special friend Annette Rudy, his best friend Gerry Stubler, and his niece and nephew Lesia Peet and John Moroz who were both very close to him. Gerald was born in Gilbert Plains on December 2, 1913 and raised in Winnipeg. He married Mary Sysak in 1938 and they were happily married for 52 years. Weekends were spent barbecuing and playing cards with family and friends. They both especially enjoyed watching and playing baseball, camping and fishing and frequently took weekend trips to Ontario and Minnesota in their 1957 Chevy to pursue these pastimes. While they never had children, their nieces, nephews and friends children were always welcome in their house. Gerald always had a keen sense of humour and enjoyed listening to and telling jokes and playing tricks on family and friends. He was a "Mr. Fixit" who could repair just about anything and he never threw anything out because "you never know when you just might need that thing". He worked as a welder for 32 years with Westeel-Roscoe until his retirement in 1979. After Marys death, he remained in the home that they had built in the mid-1940s on Royal Avenue in West Kildonan. In 1999, at the age of 86, he moved into an apartment where he remained until he suffered a stroke in July, 2000. Being the fighter that he was, he overcame the effects of the stroke and had just recently moved to the Maples Personal Care Home when he took seriously ill. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., with Rev. Gordon Fulford officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, contributions can be made in Geralds name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
