MARIA JANZEN Peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, Maria Janzen was called home to her eternal rest on January 2, 2001 at the age of 100. She will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her two sons, Paul (Mary), Harold (Olga) son-in-law Vern Riediger (Erika) and step-son George Janzen; as well as 12 grandchildren and their spouses, 18 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Maria was born in Southern Russia on August 20, 1900 to Thomas and Sara Wiens. She married John Dueck in 1922 and immigrated to Canada in 1926. She was predeceased by her husband John Dueck in 1952; second husband John Janzen in 1987; her daughter Edith Riediger in 1958, as well as four grandchildren, Dennis Dueck, Kenny and Gerry Dueck, and Peter Janzen, as well as her parents and all her siblings. Maria was a member of First Mennonite Church. Funeral services will be held at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue on Monday, January 8 at 10:30 a.m. with interment in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery. Viewing on Sunday, January 7 from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Highway, and at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre, 3C Wing for their care.
