Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBEVERLY CALDERWOOD (nee DUNSMORE) Passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years on January 2, 2001 at Rosewood Lodge, Stonewall, MB. Bev was born in Neepawa and moved with her parents, Annie and Bob Dunsmore and her sister Clemency (Kemy) to Virden, MB where she spent her childhood. She began her dance education in Winnipeg as a young teenager and continued her studies in Chicago where she attended numerous dance teacher conventions, classes and workshops. She opened The Beverly Dunsmore Studio of Dance in Winnipeg in the late 1920s and continued to share her lifelong passion for dance with her many students until her retirement in the late 1960s. During her dance career, Bev and her students performed extensively at the live theatres and fairs around Manitoba. Throughout the war years, they entertained at the Armed Services bases from Shilo to Churchill. Bev inspired many of her students to continue in professional dance careers. Bev was a single parent and lovingly supported her daughter Sandy from her first marriage. Bev lived her life with enthusiasm, courage, humour and joy. In 1956 she married Andrew Calderwood and moved with him and her daughter to Stonewall. They spent many happy years together until his death in 1980. In her retirement years, Bev continued to spread her infectious enthusiasm for dance and fitness among the Stonewall area seniors. These dancing Grandmas performed for many years in the Golden Agers Variety Show. Her community involvement included leading weekly seniors fitness classes, participating in the United Church Womens Group and the Rebekahs. Bev also enjoyed sewing, crafts and sports. Bev was predeceased by her beloved husband Andrew and her sister and dancing partner, Kemy. Memories of Bev will be cherished by her daughter Sandy Bend; her grandchildren, Ryan and Allison Bend; brother-in-law Charlie Larcombe; niece Wendy Gerecke; nephew Bob Shepherd; cousin Leith Dunsmore; nieces, Beverly Watkinson and Joan Schaeffer and many other nieces and nephews of the Calderwood family. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff of Rosewood Lodge for their kindness and support. A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5 (today) at 2:00 p.m. at the MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Stonewall, MB. The Rev. Mary Best will officiate. Interment to follow at Stonewall Cemetery. The pallbearers will be Bill Watkinson, Denis Schaeffer, Bill Good, Jack Willis, George Willis. Donations may be made in memory of Bev to Rosewood Lodge in Stonewall, MB. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
