ALFRED JOSEPH OCONNOR Alfred Joseph OConnor, January 1, 2001, in Roseville, CA, age 75 years. Born October 15, 1925, to Edgar and Juliette OConnor of Winnipeg, Man., Canada. A resident of Roseville. He came to the Sacramento area in 1952. He retired in 1992 as a machinist for the Sacramento Bee after 40 years of service. At age 16, during the Second World War, he served as a Sergeant in the Canadian Army. He was a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 406 of St. Roberts Parish. Fred enjoyed playing first the drums, then the bagpipes, with the Cameron Bagpipe Band. He also served a term as Chief of the Caledonian Club. In his later years, he took up snow skiing. He was also an avid tennis player and golfer. Longtime loving companion of Francene Dicks of Roseville; dear father of Alan OConnor of Sacramento, Kerry Rossi and her husband David of Sacramento, Colleen Simon and husband Michael of Toledo, Ohio, and Maureen OConnor of Sacramento; dear stepfather of Kathy Lantini and her husband of Rocklin; adored grandfather of Michael Waltz, Meghan OConnor, Michael OConnor, Nicholas Rossi, Gianna Rossi and Michelle Lantini; loving brother of Rita Hobemier and Pete OConnor, both of Canada; also survived by his former wife Pat OConnor of Sacramento. At his request no services are being held. Contributions may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, 333 Sunrise Ave., #344, Roseville, CA, 95661.
