NATALIE VERA JOHANSON (nee ZELNUIK) After a lengthy struggle with cancer Natalie Johanson passed away on January 8, 2001. Her memory will be cherished by her husband of 56 years, Fred (Joe) Johanson; sister Jean Berg and husband Lloyd; nieces Sandra Loewen and husband Jake, Valdene Johnson and husband John and Mikal Berg; nephew Dennis Johanson and wife Elizabeth; many great and great-great nieces and nephews; family and friends. Natalie was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Ralph Third. Natalie was born on May 7, 1922 in Morris, Manitoba. She took great pride in her service in the army from 1943-1945 and was a current member of the St. James Legion. Natalie was employed as a stenographer with the St. Vital Municipal Office from 1945-1956. Natalies creative spirit took flight through her oil painting, sewing and crocheting. She found happiness in family gatherings on special occasions and at the cottage. She enjoyed camping and fishing with the Splake Fish and Game Club. Natalie was an active member of the Eastern Star since 1968 and was appointed Worthy Matron in 1970, Worthy Grand Secretary in 1978 and Grand Representative for Texas in 1986. It was through this commitment and her associated activities with Freds membership in the Shrine that she made many friends and fond memories. She happily traveled to many parades, volunteered her time by baking, crafting and assisting with a multitude of teas and events. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation in Natalies memory to the Eastern Star, Worthy Grand Matron, Habitat for Humanity Project, 525 Cathcart Street, Winnipeg, R3R 0S6 or a charity of their own choice. Fred would like to express his thanks to the staff and doctors on the 5th Floor, Victoria Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 10, at 3:30 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
