LILLIAN JEAN EVANS (nee MINNIS) Peacefully on Monday, January 8, 2001 at Grace Hospital, Lillian passed away at the age of 83 years. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Gurney; her dearest daughter Jane; and sisters, Marrie and Florence Minnis. She is survived by her son Doug (Doreen Draffin) granddaughters, Lisa (Jake Fehr) and Tara; brother Doug (Norma) Minnis; nephews, nieces, stepgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and many dear friends. In the last five years, she developed a close relationship with Hannah Horn who had a special connection with her daughter Jane. Nanny grew up in the Melita area of Manitoba. She came to Winnipeg at age 18 to attend Business College. In 1939 she went to work for the federal government in Ottawa. She later became a Captain in the Womens Army Corps, where she proudly served for four years. She met her future husband while serving and they were married in Winnipeg in 1947. After settling in Winnipeg to raise a family, she volunteered for many years with the Junior League. Nanny was one of the founding members of a womens investment group: The Gold Brick Club. For many years, she was also actively involved in politics alongside her husband. In later years, she enjoyed a successful career in real estate with the partnership of Banfield, McFarlane, Evans. Nanny enjoyed playing bridge, reading, and times with friends during winters in Florida and summers at Lake of the Woods. Nanny enjoyed an interesting and wonderful life. She will be remembered for the stories of adventure and family history she shared with us over many family meals. A memorial service in celebration of Lillians life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16 at St. Georges Anglican Church (Crescentwood), 168 Wilton St. The family would like to thank the staff of 3W Deer Lodge Centre for their kindness and consideration for the last several months.
