EIRA MARY SMITH Peacefully on January 7, 2001 in her 93rd year, Eira passed away with her family by her side. Eira was predeceased by her daughter Sandra in 1967. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband "Smithy" (Fred) her son Graeme (Rita) daughters, Shirley (Brian) and Debbi (Terry) and her grandchildren, Simon (Lyne), Lisa (Sven), Miles; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily and her little cat "Pookie". Mum was born in Treherbert, Wales, in 1908. She grew up in the Rhondda Valley. Mum came to Canada in 1946 to join her husband, whom she had met in England during the war. She had the gift of being a talented seamstress, knitter and wrote beautiful poetry. She was a very caring and loving confidante to not only her children but to many a young person who enjoyed long chats at the kitchen table over a "cup of tea". Eiras family would like to thank the 5th floor nursing staff (Wynonna, Lori-Ann, Shannon and Laurie) for their kindness. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2001 at 12:30 p.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Interment and reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Road, Winnipeg MB, R2L 1X3 or to a charity of your choice.
