Ksenia was born to Peter and Parashka Masnyk on September 7, 1905, in Zolochiev, Western Ukraine. In 1909, along with her parents, one sister and five brothers, she immigrated to Canada at the age of four. She married Frank Soltowski and set up a home in the St. Norbert area where they farmed and raised one son named Walter. "Baba" as everyone knew her, was the kindest, most gentle and generous individual. She was a best friend, confidant and the pillar of strength and hope for anyone who came to her. Her famous words were: "Dont worry your little head, tomorrow will be a better day!" She was predeceased by her husband Frank in 1966, her son Walter in 1968 and her daughter-in-law Rosalia in 1984. She was the only surviving member of all her brothers and sisters. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her grandchildren, Gerard Soltowski and wife Angela of Woodstock, Ont., Patricia Denysiuk and husband John, Grace Smith and husband Barry. She will also be sadly missed by her great-grandchildren, Walter, Lisa and Robert of Woodstock and Veronica and Leagh of Winnipeg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Ksenias Funeral Service will be held Friday, January 12, at 1:00 p.m., in Wojciks Funeral Chapel, 2157 Portage Ave., at Sharp Boulevard with Rev. Dr. Patrick Morand presiding. Heartfelt thanks to the nursing staff, Unit 5 of the Victoria General Hospital for the compassionate care she received throughout the last five weeks of her life.
