HEDWIG JANKE Hedwig Janke (Pokrant) of the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 10, 2001 at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest on April 5, 1972 and by her brothers and sisters, Elizebeth (Henry) Recksiedler, Helen (Louis) Recksiedler, Bill (Verna), Ernest (Elsie), and Leo (Elsie). She is survived by one son Ray and his wife Trudy of Kindersley, Sask., and their four daughters, Dawn, Gina, Jamie, and Lisa all of Edmonton, as well as numerous other relatives. Mom was born June 13, 1912 to August and Katharine (Mattern) Pokrant on the family farm just north of Rosenfeld. She married Ernest Janke on October 24, 1934 and they took over Dads family farm. In 1956 they sold the farm and purchased the Red and White Store in Rosenfeld. In 1965 they moved to Sewell and operated the store and Post Office there, until it closed. In 1979 Mom moved back to Rosenfeld when the new Seniors Villa was built. After retiring, Mom enjoyed going on bus tours as well as visiting friends for an evening of cards, or just staying at home to watch a good movie on TV. She was also an avid curler in her younger years. In 1988 when her health started to fail, Mom moved to the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris where she resided until her passing. Mom was a life long member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld, and was always active in it until her health failed. We would like to thank the nurses and staff of the Red River Valley Lodge and Dr. Manness for the wonderful care she received there over the years. The funeral service will be held at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rosenfeld on Saturday, January 13 at 2:00 p.m., with burial at the Rosenfeld Cemetery. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the St. Johns Lutheran Church Memorial Fund or the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris. The arrangements are with the Morris Funeral Home, 204-746-2451.
