JOHN C. "CHIC" BALDERSTONE August 17, 1908 - January 12, 2001 It is with great sadness, the family announce the peaceful passing of Chic Balderstone at his home on January 12, 2001. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jack (Arlene) of Middlechurch, Pat (Larry) Prokop of Edmonton, Barbara (Dave) Zayac of Birds Hill and Christine Morgan of Winnipeg; sisters, Dorothy Langton of Middlechurch, Marjorie of Emerson and Grace of Birds Hill; 12 grandchildren, David, Sean, Brian, Gordon, Jeff, Jane, Allan, Jennifer, Kathryn, Danielle, Tami and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ena on September 8, 2000; his brother Joseph; sisters, Georgina, Phame and Eleanor; sons-in-law, Gary Gzebb and Wayne Morgan. Chic was born August 17, 1908 on the family property 92 years ago in Middlechurch and his roots were deep in his community from that time. He lived his entire married life of 65 years with Ena in their home built from stone he hauled out of the Red River by his team of horses. Their home was host to countless occasions for many years, he so enjoyed his violin and singing around the piano. In his early years, Dad worked for Bird Construction and the Seven Oaks School Division, as well as market gardening, sharing his bounty with family and friends for many years. His love for Municipal politics spanned 31 years, retiring at age 78 as Reeve of West St. Paul. In 1986 he received the Order of the Buffalo Hunt, the following year, he was honoured by the RCMP for his contribution for improving police community relations. He was on the founding board of Seven Oaks Hospital, a member of the 1st West St. Paul Volunteer Fire Department and one of the first to curl at the West St. Paul Curling Club. Dad was a hard working family man, and knowledgeable story teller, he loved to share his experiences with zest to anyone who would listen. He was so proud of his family and his community of West St. Paul. Heartfelt appreciation and thanks to our wonderful "Home Care family", Jennifer Kristia, Joan, Jim, Lakech, Edda, Kathy and Pat. We will never forget your kindness and love to Mom and Dad, enabling them to remain at home the past few years. God Bless You. Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 15 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Anglican Church, Balderstone Road, Middlechurch. Rev. Fraser Hunter officiating. Cremation has taken place. You never asked for favours Yet you did them everyday You never asked for help And yet you gave so much away You never asked for gratitude And yet our whole life through Well always be so grateful Just to have had your love and you. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Pauls Anglican Church Building Fund, 299 Balderstone Road, West St. Paul, Man. R4A 4A5 or to a charity of ones choice. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
