MATT M. BOYCHUK It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Matt M. Boychuk of Vita, MB after a lengthy illness he peacefully left this world on January 11, 2001 at the Vita Hospital, surrounded by his family. Matt was born to Michael and Anna Boychuk on November 8, 1914 at Sundown, MB. On September 15, 1940, Matt married Mary Persowich, and together they farmed at Sundown where they raised their family. Matt and Mary had two sons, George (Linda), and Dennis, who passed away in 1987 at the age of 41 years; one granddaughter Rhonda (Allen) and three great-grandchildren, Danielle, Derek and Dannalee Levenec. Although our parents had turned over the farm to son George in 1979, they remained there, helping out wherever they could until in 1999, when the moved to the Shady Oaks Apartments in Vita, which now became their home. Dad had many interests, spending as much time as possible with his family, making music with his violin or the Cymbaly, or just being out with his horses. Besides his loving family, Matt leaves to mourn his passing, brother Nick (Edna) brothers-in-law, Bill Lane and John Persowich; sisters-in-law, Sophie Waskul and Frances Naturkach, and numerous nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna Boychuk; sisters, Sophie Olynyk, Stella Alexiuk and Ann Lane Veenstra. The family would like to thank the following for all their help and support, Dr. Azar, Dr. Smith and all the staff at the Vita Hospital, Donna Bell and all the home care workers, Esther, Nettie, Evelyn, Leona, Jessica, Pat and Shirley. "God Bless you all." Prayers for Matt Boychuk will be said on Sunday, January 14, 7:30 p.m. at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach followed by funeral services on Monday, January 15, 10:30 a.m. at the Ascension of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sundown with Rev. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in Matts memory to the Cancer Treatment & Research Foundation of Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB R3E 9Z9. Nothing can take away, The love a heart holds dear; Fond memories linger every day Remembrance keeps him near. Arrangements entrusted to Loewen Funeral Chapel of Steinbach (204) 326-1351.
