ERNEST I. SILVERBERG Words cannot express the profound sadness experienced by the family, on the passing of their highly respected and beloved Ernest I. Silverberg, on December 28, 2000. He is survived by his brothers, David and Morris, who both miss him greatly, and by cousins, relatives and very good friends. Ernie, as he was affectionately called, spent most of his lifetime in automotive circles and became very knowledgeable in that field, as well as in the present version of electric cars. His cheerful disposition, his sincere honesty and good knowledge of the automobile made him a very popular car salesman; especially in the more expensive units of modern design. He was thus often delegated to attend preview showings in major centres across Canada, as the new models hit the market. As a young man, he was very active in several fraternal organizations. To name but a few, he was a Past Master of Prince Ruperts Masonic Lodge No. 1 AF and AM, in which he held Life Membership. He was a Past Principal of Connaught Chapter and a Life Member of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba, as well as in many other fraternal and Community Bodies. He was very active in The House of Ashkenazie Synagogue, held various positions and performed extensive duties on its behalf, for a number of years. Ernies popularity was currently demonstrated by the many long distance telephone condolence calls, from very good friends throughout Canada and the United States. The funeral services were held at the Chesed Shel Emes Chapel on Friday, December 29, 2000 officiated by Rabbi A. Altein with pallbearers, Norman and William Silverberg, Jack Koffman, Morris Henoch, Archie Kraut and John Silverman. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at the St. Boniface Hospital and especially those who so willingly made efforts to ease the familys burden of so great a loss, and Mr. I. Hendler, who gave so graciously of his time in helping with the funeral arrangements. Dr. S. Bellan, through his frequent visits and kindness, proved to be a very dear friend, as well as the familys physician. It would be impractical to name all those who, during the observed week of mourning, were ready to help in deed, as well as in providing material conveniences. An expression of sincere gratitude goes out to them. They are True Friends. "Charity" was always a "must" with Ernie and he seldom, if ever, turned down an outstretched hand. Donations in memory of Ernie Silverberg, can be made to any charity of ones choice.
