Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDONALD BRUCE MacKENZIE Donald Bruce MacKenzie was born January 25, 1905, in Calumet, Michigan and died suddenly January 12, 2001, at the Victoria General Hospital. Bruce was predeceased by his parents, Hector and Kate and his sister Janet. He is survived by his brother John R. and sister-in-law Glenna; nephew John H. and wife Averil; nieces, Cynthia and Donna; nephews, John E. and David; grandniece MacKenzie and grandnephews, Seth, Garrett and Noah who reside in Ohio, U.S.A. and cousin Betty and Ray Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa. From and early age Bruce lived in Winnipeg. Bruce was employed by Dominion Bridge as an iron worker until his retirement. His adopted families were Mary Jane and Jack Zonneveld and their children, Anna, Janet, John, and James. Also Louise Smendziuk and daughters, Mary, Laura, and Marla. These two families made it possible for Bruce to remain in the home he once shared with his parents and sisters until his death. He took great pleasure in their friendship as they did in his. He will be fondly remembered for his love of sports, remarkable memory, and interest in current affairs. Additional supports were provided by Home Care, Meals on Wheels and Victoria Lifeline. His neighbour, L. Mulvaneys acts of kindness were appreciated. The staff at the Oakwood Cafe is recognized for making his weekly visits enjoyable. The families wish to acknowledge with gratitude Dr. Angus McGowan for his generosity in caring for Bruce. Thanks also to the staff of the Victoria General Hospital Emergency ward and Chaplain Ron Long for their compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rossbrook House, 658 Ross Avenue, R3A 0M1. At his request, a Memorial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., on Tuesday, January 16 at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Father Peter Monty S.J. officiating.
