ALBERT ROBERT SMITH May 10, 1921 - January 10, 2001 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dearest father and grandpa on Wednesday, January 10, 2001 at the age of 79. Dad was predeceased by his son William Robert (Billy) his wife Edna; his sisters, Elsie and Olive; his brothers, Fred and Bill; his parents, John and Pauline Schmidt. His memory will always be cherished by his daughters, Betty Ducheck (Richard), Nancy Pihulak (Werner), Gwen Bohna (Rick) his grandchildren, Amber, Chad, Sean, Troy and Kendra; his sister Martha Pfiefer (Bill) sisters-in-law, Marie Schmidt and Elma Smith; brother-in-law Aubrey Brautigam; dear friend Inga; along with many nieces and nephews and friends. Dad was born in Ashern, Man., in 1921 and moved to Parkdale at an early age. He had an adventurous youth, then settled down and married Edna (Liebrecht) on June 16, 1945. Mom and Dad spent their entire 30 years together in the home they built in Parkdale. Dad worked for many years for the Highways Department, Quality and Atomic Transfers, and the Manitoba Rolling Mill where he retired in 1979 after 25 years. Dads greatest joy was his family and friends sharing fun at the pool and a few games of thirty-one. Dad left Parkdale in October 1994 and moved to Winnipeg. He especially enjoyed his last few years at Gable Arms where he made many new friends and enjoyed playing Whist and Hola, carpet bowling, the casino trips and his Gold Eyes bowling team. A prayer service will be held on Sunday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk. The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. with viewing at 12:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 6800 Main St., Selkirk, Man., with Pastor Terry Throndson officiating. We would like to thank the entire staff on the 5th and 3rd floors of the Seven Oaks Hospital for the compassionate care they gave to Dad and our family during the past three months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., R3B 2H8 or Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., R3C 2B7.
