GORDON "LEFTY" ALLAN THOMPSON It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our dear father, grandfather, cousin and friend on Monday, December 25, 2000 at the Fort Bend Memorial Hospital in Missouri City, Texas. Gordon was born in Winnipeg, January 3, 1931 to John and Pearl Thompson and was married to Verna May Kenyon in Elm Creek on April 24, 1954. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 46 years on October 16, 2000; his sister Irene in 1928; his father John in 1963 and his mother Pearl in 1966. He will be fondly remembered and missed by his son Blair; daughter Tracy Pereira (Fred) grandchildren, Denise and Alix Thompson, Korey, Graeme and Robyn Pereira; cousin Blake and Lucille Woods; Barry and Alice Woods; Jean and Ralph Voetberg; Charlotte Gendreau and the many golfing, curling and morning coffee buddies. Gordon was raised in Culross and went to school in Culross and Elm Creek. Gordon worked for Westeel, T.S. Taylor Machinery and retired from Lukes Machinery in 1990 and started his own business Korey Machinery and Supply. He enjoyed playing hockey, curling and baseball in his prime. After retirement, he enjoyed his family and his curling and golfing buddies. In his spare time he indulged himself in carpentry and woodwork, gardening and especially when he slipped away for a round of golf. Gordon used to recite this poem by Sgt. Joyce Kilmer. TREES I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. A tree whose hungry mouth is pressed Against the earths sweet flowing breast; A tree that looks at God all day, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A tree that may in Summer wear A nest of robins in her hair; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. Cremation has taken place. Ashes were interred in the Elm Creek Cemetery. A private gathering to commemorate his life was held after the burial. If friends so desire, a donation may be made in Gordons memory to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 9Z9.
