ISAAC (IKE) FRIESEN Isaac (Ike) Friesen passed away Thursday, March 8, 2001 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary at the age of 80. Ike was born in Russia on October 9, 1920. Left to celebrate his life are his wife Elma of 53 years, daughter Nancie, son-in-law Ron Ambrozy, two grandchildren Kristin and Adam (Calgary), his sister Susie Epp (Winkler) and brother Dave (Winkler) and many in-laws and nieces and nephews. His parents, his sister Mary and his brother Nick, predeceased him. Ike grew up in Plum Coulee and lived in Winnipeg most of his life until moving to Calgary in December 1996 to be with his family. He was a member of the ANAF, the Hong Kong Veterans Association and former member of the Assiniboine Golf Course. He served in the Winnipeg Grenadiers during Second World War and spent nearly four years as a prisoner of war in Hong Kong and Japan. He worked at Fort Osborne Barracks as a plumber and when he retired he spent many winters in Hawaii and later in Texas. He owned a trailer with his wife in Weslco, Texas at the Trails End Trailer Park and spent at least 10 years as a Winter Texan where he loved to golf and visit Mexico. He will be greatly missed by his wife and family and friends in both Calgary and Winnipeg. Prayers will be held Thursday evening March 15, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., entrance on Aubrey St., and the funeral service will be at the same location on Friday, March 16 at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Brookside Cemetery.
