Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHARRY LEOCHKO It is with much sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our father on March 8, 2001, at the Hunter Memorial Hospital, Teulon, Man. Dad was predeceased by his wife Mary (Chomiak) in 1997 and son Michael in 2000. He leaves to mourn, Tony (Kathy), Peter (Rose), Harry, Tina (Peter) Boryskavich, Andy (Nori), Mary Jean (Len) Marcyniuk, Lillian (Michaels widow) 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Mezertzi, Holich, Austria on February 6, 1910 and immigrated to Canada on September 27, 1929. He was proud to be a Canadian and often reminisced about his life in Ukraine and his long voyage to Poplarfield where he established his homestead. He married Mary in 1934 and resided in Poplarfield until he moved to Teulon in 1998. His love of the outdoors was focused on hunting, harvesting, cutting firewood/pulpwood and playing baseball. He was a Christian devoting his time as a Cantor and as President of the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Parish of Poplarfield, a position he held from 1959 until his passing. He especially will be remembered for his lead role as an actor in many Ukrainian dramas in aid of the church, as well as his tremendous vocal talents at numerous Ukrainian weddings. Prayers will be held on Sunday, March 11 at 7:30 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Teulon, Man. Rev. Fr. Harry Oliynek will officiate. Funeral service will take place at the Poplarfield Community Centre on Monday, March 12 at 10:00 a.m. with interment at St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery in Poplarfield with Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel and Rev. Deacon Harry Chuckry officiating. Pallbearers will be his granddaughters. The family expresses its thanks to Doctor McTaggart and the medical staff at the Hunter Memorial Hospital for the care they provided to Dad during his illness; also special thanks to all his friends at Gateway Manor for their caring and friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dads memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3B 2H8.
