ANDREW BERZISH It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Andrew (Henry) Berzish on January 12, 2001 at the Maples Personal Care Home. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Katherine, of 54 years; daughter Maria (Joseph) son Thom (Dawn) grandchildren, Ken, Karen (Carmine), Christine and Murphy; great-grandchildren, Emma, Gabriella and Paolo; sisters, Irene and Dorothy, as well as aunts, nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his father Fred, mother Mary and sister Therese. Dad was born in Winnipeg on December 4, 1917. After growing up in the North End around the C.P.R. yards, he worked at C.P.R. Weston Shops for most of his working life until his retirement in 1979. In his earlier years, Dad enjoyed fishing, his self-made smoke house was always filled with Goldeye. He later found relaxation in 10 Pin Bowling and found pride in the trophies he won. Dad also took great pride in many things he did around the house. His vegetable garden and lawn were the envy of the neighbourhood. His annual battle against the potato bugs will also be missed. His days were filled with cooking and baking. The aroma and taste of his homemade sausage and bread were rivalled by none. There never seemed to be enough time for his endless list of household tasks. Keeping his cars spotless took a good part of that time. Dad always seemed to have time to visit his daughters dogs. His frequent visits and treats made him a favourite of Barney and Missy. The family would like to thank the coordinator and workers of Homecare, the staff of Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg and Maples Personal Care Home. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, January 18 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Henry to CancerCare Manitoba, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, R3E 9Z9 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL in care of arrangements - 586-8044.
