Date of Passing: Jan 15, 2001
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTENA CHUCKRY With heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at the Arborg and District Health Centre on January 15, 2001. Tena (Tekla) Hykawy was born in Meleb, Man. on September 23, 1914 to John and Mary (Bezpalko) Hykawy. She was baptized in Fraserwood St. Mary Immaculate Church and attended school at Meleb, Man. She married John Chuckry, son of Harry and Dora Chuckry in Winnipeg at St. Vladimir and Olga. They settled in the Rembrandt area and farmed basically until her husband passed away in 1969. In retirement Tena continued to live on the farm with her children and grandchildren until her passing. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary; seven brothers, Peter, Fred, Steve, Nick, Dan, Joe and an infant brother Sam; also sister Annie. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by two sisters, Jean and Kay and by her nine children; Bill (Jean), Mary Kindzierski, Deacon, Harry (Joan), Annie (Paul) Sobie, Steve (Rose), Elizabeth (Carl) Kaminski, Eddie, Joanne (Alfred) Hurak, Roy (Margaret). She will also be lovingly remembered by 29 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews and by all her friends and acquaintances. Being a child of pioneers she knew well and experienced the pioneer life and its struggles. Her two greatest joys in life with her husband were through her family with all its growing experiences and through her church which provided her with all the spiritual growth and strength that she needed and both she and Dad instilled these attributes in their children. From both she received and to both she generously gave of her time and her effort. She never seemed to be too tired or not have time for these two joys despite the demands they required of her in all the attention needed. If 24 hours in a day were not enough sometimes she could squeeze in a 25th hour to accomplish what was needed. When more lately her ability to travel was limited she generously gave of her advice from home. She also enjoyed greatly maintaining her contacts with family and friends in telephone conversations. Prayers will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, January 19 in Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Arborg. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m. in Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church, Arborg. Rev. Father Mark Gnutel will officiate with interment to follow in St. Marys Cemetery Rembrandt. Tenas grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. The family wishes to sincerely express thanks to Dr. Mariette Muller for her kindness in attending to Mom, for the pleasant visits of the homecare, assistance from Brenda Fridfinnson, Sheila Johnston, Brenda Yarema and Inga Johnson.
