PETER KARPLUK April 27, 1916 - January 15, 2001 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dearest Husband, Father and Gigi at Seven Oaks Hospital on Monday, January 15, 2001 at the age of 84. Peter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 43 years Frances, two sons Peter, John (Laurie), grandchildren Justin and Connor. Also left are many relatives and friends in Winnipeg, Ukraine and Hungary. Peter was born in Pawlow, Ukraine. He served with distinction in the Polish Army from 1938 to 1947 and fought in the battles of Monte Cassino, Artona and Balogna under British command. He immigrated to Canada in 1947 and served in the Canadian Armed Forces Reserves, Provost, Corp. till 1977. Peter was employed by the City of Winnipeg in the Works and Operations Department and retired after 32 years of dedicated service. He was honoured to be appointed as a life time member of C.U.P.E. Local 500. Peter was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and his service with the Armed Forces. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 141 where he served as a member for 52 years. He was also in the Color Party for 20 years. He loved the camaraderie of his fellow veterans and spent many interesting hours sharing stories and memories at 141 Legion and at the Garden City Shopping Centre. He volunteered his time with Air Cadets Squadron No. 573 as Supply Officer and Sponsorship Chairman from 1957-1991. In 1992 he received a Commemorative medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada from the Governor General in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada. Peter valued family most. His pride and love for his wife, sons, daughter-in-law and grandchildren always shone in his eyes. Peter waited years for grandchildren and in 1997 he was blessed with twin boys Justin and Connor. They brought GiGi much joy and happiness. He always had a sweet smile for them even when he was very ill. Special thanks to Dr. Tsang, to the nurses and staff on 5 unit 4 at the Seven Oaks Hospital and to Homecare for their compassionate care. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 18 at 10:00 a.m. also at St Josephs Church with a Redemptorist Father officiating. Color Party and honour guards will be in attendance. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Neil McGregor, Bernie Kuntz, Mike Rebec, Hugh Korol, Tim Korol and Brian Guyda. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kidney or Heart and Stroke Foundation. Miss Me, But Let me Go When I come to the end of the road, and the Sun has set for me, I want no rites in the Gloom-filled room, why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, but not too long, and not with your head bowed low, remember the love That we once shared, miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone. Its part of the Masters plan, a step on the road to home. We love you Peter, Dad and Gigi Cropo Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 586-8044.
