Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES (JIM) DAWSON November 10, 1912 - January 14, 2001 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Jim Dawson at his home on January 14, 2001. Jim was predeceased by his adopted daughter Lorna. Lovingly remembered by his wife Georgina; his sons, Roy (Cecilia), Michael; daughters, Gena Jackson (Larry), Marion Hodgins (Guy) also his grandchildren, Tony, Lance (Linda), Jeannie, Colin (Tammye), Cory (Candace), Connie, Shannon; as well as eight great-grandchildren. Jim was born in London, England, where in his early years he served as a pipefitters apprentice. In 1940, he enlisted with the Royal Artillery during the Second World War. While serving overseas, he was captured and held P.O.W. for three and one half years. Upon returning to England, he worked as a milk salesman and later opened his Green Grocers business. In 1953, Jim and his family immigrated to Winnipeg, where he was proud to be jointly employed at Standard Dairies as a dairy salesman, and Wilsons Auto Electric as a custodian. He eventually retired at age 80. Jim and Georgina were married for 66 years and shared many holidays by motorcycle, car, motor home, bus, sea, and air. Jim was a regular member of both the Imperial Vets and No. 7 Legions, where he enjoyed carpet bowling and various social events. Jim was an avid reader, and hockey and wrestling fan. He will be sadly missed by all of his many friends and past co-workers. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2H8.
