Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARLENE RUTH LESLIE (nee PAULL) It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt on January 12, 2001 at Victoria General Hospital at the age of 66. She was surrounded by love with her family at her side at the time of her passing. She is predeceased by her parents, Ruth and Edwin Paull and brother Delbert Paull. Arlene leaves to mourn her husband Bill; son Terry and children, Jessica and Mackenzie; daughter Lorilee Leslie-Cole (Vernon) and children, Aidan and Taylor and daughter Zoe Nott and children, Melanie, Andrew, Janelle and Shannon; brother Eldon Paull (Marion) and sister Dale Hayward (Wilf). Arlene will be greatly missed as well by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Born in Swan River, Man., on February 28, 1934, Arlene enjoyed her early years on the farm, especially riding cows and performing radio shows in the outhouse. She spoke fondly of her friends and activities during her high school years. She participated in CGIT, church youth groups, drama and curling. After completing her schooling in Swan River she graduated from Normal School in Winnipeg in 1954. She taught in Brandon before leaving for France to marry her high school sweetheart. Bills proposal included the opportunity to travel which appealed to Arlene. Bills career as a Pilot with the Armed Forces led to eleven different postings throughout Europe, Canada, and California. Arlene worked hard to make each new house a home. With courage and enthusiasm she handled the many details of settling herself and her family into a new house and community. She was involved in many volunteer positions through the years from visiting at a nursing home to leading a United Church Explorers group. She worked as a Substitute Teacher in Winnipeg from 1965 to 1968. In 1975 she became the Coordinator of Womens Programs at the Sportsplex in Ottawa until moving back to Winnipeg in 1977. In 1980 she became the Coordinator of Volunteers at the Dalnavert museum. She enjoyed her work at Dalnavert giving tours, training volunteers and organizing and participating in special programs and events. She especially valued the friends she made there. She always looked forward to the Chinese Dinner outings with the Wednesday volunteer group. In 1985 Bill and Arlene purchased the General Store in Domain, Man. During their four years in Domain, Arlene was in her element, making new friends and managing the stores craft boutique. She was a member of the Avonlea United Church Womans Group, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Domain Womens Institute. Most recently Arlene enjoyed the meetings, activities and friendships as a member of the Fellowship Committee at Trinity United Church. She pursued many interests such as reading, sewing, gardening and crafts. Among her favourite activities were entertaining, camping, and visiting the cottage at Clear Lake. Her interest and talent in maintaining historical and current photo albums and scrapbooks will provide cherished memories for generations to come. Arlene liked nothing better than to plan, organize and celebrate special occasions with her family. Her sense of humour was greatly appreciated by all of her grandchildren. Her quiet faith and strong will sustained her through the many health challenges she faced in recent years. Arlenes cheerful spirit and giving nature touched all those in her life. Well done good and faithful servant. The face we loved is missing The voice we loved is stilled The place is vacant in our hearts But never can be filled You left us a special memory Of sorrow too great to hold To us who loved and lost you Your memory will never grow old There is no parting from those we love No distance can divide For each day in memorys garden We still walk side by side Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17 at Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave., Fort Richmond, Winnipeg.
