ADOLPH LOS Adolph passed away at the Selkirk and District General Hospital, on Monday, January 15, 2001. He was 99 years old, two months short of his 100th birthday. We mourn our loss, but we celebrate his long and rich life. Adolph was predeceased by his wife Annie, who passed away in 1989. They spent 56 years together. Left to cherish his memory are his two children, Edward (Beverley) and Helen (Stanley) his five grandchildren, Ian, Allison (Chuck), Kristin (Stephen), Ann Marie and Jill. He was predeceased by a brother, Janek and his wife in Russia, and by a brother, Marjan and his wife Mania, and a sister-in-law, Marusia in Poland. He is survived by three brothers in Poland, Stach (Dzusia), Jozef, and Rev. Father Antoni. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Poland, Russia, Winnipeg and the U.S. Adolph was also very close to his wifes family: the Warrenchuk family of Winnipeg and the Ozero family of Thunder Bay and New York. He formed a special bond with his long-time neighbours on Britannia Avenue where he had lived for nearly 60 years, and many friendships in Deerfield Beach, Florida (especially the Morans of P.E.I.), where he spent winters until the age of 96. Adolph was born in Poland in 1901. He was the oldest of six brothers. With very little education, and with a great desire to make a better life for himself, he arrived in Canada. His first job was clearing land in Saskatchewan. He then moved to Winnipeg and started a wood and coal business. In 1933, he met and married Annie. In 1936 they moved to Selkirk and started Selkirk Lumber Co., a family business that existed for 63 years. Throughout his life, Adolph was very well respected. He was honest, independent and determined; a man of principal. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Notre Dame Roman Catholic Church, Selkirk with Father Boguslaw Wardzinski officiating, Father Art Seaman, and Monsignor Louis McCloskey assisting. The pallbearers will be, Peter Warren, John Warrenchuk, Brian Ozero, Greg Warren, Vic Carson and Don Pruden. The family wishes to thank all the staff members at Red River Place where Adolph resided for one and one-half years. He enjoyed living there and was forever grateful for the loving and gentle care he received. The family also wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and support staff at the Selkirk General Hospital who cared for Dad so competently and compassionately in his last days. In times of sorrow, to live in such a caring community as Selkirk, makes the journey a little easier to accept. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to Notre Dame Church Memorial Fund, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB R1A 1W9 or the Palliative Care Unit in care of Selkirk General Hospital, 100 Easton Dr., Selkirk, MB R1A 2M2. "To live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die."Rest in peace, Dad and Gigi Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
