Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALLAN GRAHAM TURNER Suddenly, following a brief illness, it is with deep sadness that we announce the death of Allan Turner, on Valentines Day, February 14, 2001 at the age of 72 years. Allan was predeceased by his wife Pauline; his father Jack and his mother Villa. Left to cherish Dads memory are his daughters, Gail (Bill) of Winnipeg, Lynn (John) Hughes of Winnipeg, Sandra (Tim) of Caledon, Ontario; grandchildren, Jason, Richard, Tyler, Chanel, Shaya and through Jasons marriage his wife Robyn; his sister Vivian; brother-in-law Arnold as well as many other family and friends who knew Dad as "Uncle Allan". Allan married Pauline on September 15, 1951 and went on to raise three daughters. Dad worked very hard throughout his life to support and love his family always making sure there was vacation time to travel every year. In the last few years Dad had travelled to Hawaii with a special friend, to the Caribbean with his buddy Gus and on an Amazon Cruise. Our Dad was a giving and generous person. He always used to say at the dinner table, "if there was only one piece of pie left, he would split it five ways." Dads other passion in life was Firefighting. Dads career as a Firefighter for the Winnipeg Fire Department began on May 1, 1950. He worked at Station # 4 , January 1, 1966 through to January 6, 1974 driving the Rescue Wagon. He was promoted to Lieutenant January 7, 1974, and then he went on to Stations # 23 and # 22. From July 20, 1979 through to June 13, 1981, Allan served as a Training Officer. After 36 years of service, Allan retired on August 31, 1986. After his retirement he was always so proud of his years on the force. He never forgot anyones names and always had stories to tell about his Fire Department Family. He continued to be active for the Historical Society and always looked forward to the Tuesday morning meetings. A Service to Celebrate Allans Life will be held on Thursday March 1, at 1:30 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley Street, Wpg, MB., with Chaplain Mark Young officiating. A private family gathering will be held the following day to join our Dad with our Mom. In lieu of flowers it friends so desire, donations may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund, 202-666 St. James Street, Wpg, MB., R3G 3J6, or to the Firefighters Historical Society, 56 Maple Street, Wpg, MB., R3B OY8 in the memory of Allan Turner. "Big Al" as he was known to many, loved to visit with family and friends, eagerly joining in any conversation. Life is so short and precious, we know Dad would like it if you took a friend or family member to lunch and seized the moments with them. A special and heartfelt thanks to the Winnipeg Fire Department and to Chaplain Mark Young for their compassion and concerns the past weeks. Dad could have never chosen a more special "Extended Family." We never really understand At least until weve grown The fullness of a parents love The joys and cares theyve known We do not see the special things They do from day to day And simply take them for granted Their thoughtful loving ways But as we grow, our wisdom grows Until the moment when We see how much their love has meant How wonderful theyve been. And so this day we say to you You were the Best Dad in the World The Very Dearest too. Love Gail,Lynn and Sandra LEATHERDALE GARDINER 1501 Waverley Street, 949-4860
