Michael will always be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his son Richard and daughter Stella (John) Karr, grandchildren, Tracy Shachtay and Victoria (Ken) Terin; his brothers, John (Alice), Stanley (Emma), Joe (Nellie), Kaz, and Nick (Frieda) numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Agnes; brothers, Walter and Harry; infant brother and sister (twins) and Michaels long-time companion, Kay. He was born August 24, 1911 in Chicago, Ill. and moved with his family to Canada as a youth. They resided in New Valley, MB, where he met and married Anne Lazarenko. While raising their two children in Winnipeg, Michael worked at various jobs (home construction) with the most recent being at Swifts Packers as a butcher until his retirement. He was an avid gardener, collector and enjoyed dancing all his life well into his 80s. He belonged to several Age and Opportunity Clubs, but attended the Selkirk Avenue Club most frequently until ill health prevented him from continuing. Thereafter he enjoyed his music by listening and tapping his feet. The family would like to thank Middlechurch Home for their excellent care and compassion, and most especially the staff on duty January 15 and 16. Prayers will be held on Friday, January 19, at 7:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., and the funeral service on Saturday, January 20 at 10:00 a.m., also at the Chapel.
