JACK RONALD LARNER With great sorrow, we announce the passing of Jack Ronald Larner on Saturday, January 13, 2001 at the age of 90 years. Jack was predeceased by his wife Velma in 1976; his long time companion, Evelyn Still, in 1997 and many other close family and friends. In his long life he touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who know him. Jack was born in Stroud, England on October 11, 1910 and came to Canada as a young child. He lived in Winnipeg for most of his life, other than a short time when he resided in Moncton. Jack progressed from mail boy to head of purchasing over the span of his 45 year career with Swifts. Jack and Velma married in 1936 and together enjoyed travelling and entertaining. They loved their time spent at Brereton Lake. Jack hand built two cottages, which many family and friends enjoyed over the years. Jack and Velma shared many happy years together until Velmas passing in 1976. Through family gatherings over the next few years, Jack and Evelyn found comfort in each others company and became close friends. They took many trips together to visit family and friends. They had a loving relationship, and Jack showed tremendous commitment and a caring spirit during Evelyns final years. After 45 wonderful years on Palliser Avenue, Jack found it necessary to move to Heritage Personal Care Home after having a stroke in 1998. Over the course of his life, Jack enjoyed hockey, curling, mosaic ceramics, gardening and playing the organ. He loved his St. Bernard dogs, Cleo and Major. Jacks sense of humour, sharp wit and friendly nature will be missed by many. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. For those who wish, a donation in Jacks memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 2B7.
