ISAAC BERGEN (IKE) June 19, 1926 - January 16, 2001 Ike passed away peacefully on January 16, 2001 at the St. Boniface Hospital in the Palliative Care Unit with his wife and sons at his side. Ike was born in the Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1930 with his parents and younger sister. He grew up in Morden, MB. In his early 20s, Dad travelled across northern Canada as a carpenter. On November 26, 1955 he married Ruth McDonald and settled in their Winnipeg home and raised five sons there. He then worked for Crescent Creamery, Modern Dairies and finally Beatrice Foods as a milkman. He retired in 1990 after 35 years of faithfully delivering milk. Ike is survived by his wife of 45 years, Ruth; his sons, John (Val), Don (Chris), Bill (Jan), Gordon (Shelley) and Paul; his sisters, Elvira (Alfred Remple), Anne (Reinhart Brust), Helen (Ray Wheeler) and mother-in-law Gladys McDonald; also by his grandchildren, Jason, Shawn, Andre, Melissa, Jessica and Aaron; sister-in-law Margaret Lauren and brother-in-law Vince Lauren of Edmonton; brothers-in-law, Gerald McDonald of Edmonton, Ray Jones of British Columbia, and by his many nieces and nephews. Ike was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Anna; his two brothers, Willy and David; father-in-law Emmett McDonald; brother-in-law Keith McDonald and sisters-in-law, Elsie Jones and Marion McDonald. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Friday, January 19 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave., Aubrey Street entrance at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, charitable donations can be made to the St. Boniface Hospital.
