WILLIAM RONALD (RON) PERRY William Ronald (Ron) Perry, aged 67, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2001 at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Ron was predeceased by his parents, William and Margaret; brothers, Tom and Jim. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Sheila; daughters, Carol and Michelle (fiancee, Brad) son Shawn; brothers, Ted and Bernard; mother-in-law Kathleen White; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Ron was born and raised in Edinburgh, Scotland where he went to school at St. Cuthberts and St. Anthony High School. He served two years in the Royal Air Force between 1951 to 1953. In 1964, he immigrated to Canada to play professional soccer for the Winnipeg Blues, and then Thistle Soccer Club. Although he was fondly nicknamed "The Oatmeal Savage" on the soccer field, he was a wonderful father, husband and friend. Being an avid sports fan, he was a lifetime member at the Winnipeg Canoe Club. There he loved to play badminton, squash and golf, as well as participate in many other activities. He particularly enjoyed dancing and loved to listen to his favourite music by Andrea Bocelli. The family would like to thank the entire staff at St. Boniface Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, for their excellent care and compassion. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1501 Waverley St., with Rev. Fr. Michael Koryluk officiating. Should friends so desire, donations in Rons memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or Special Olympics, Room 402 - 200 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4M2.
