Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY OBIREK (nee KARATCHUK) On January 19, 2001, surrounded by family members our dearly beloved Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and Friend quietly passed away at Selkirk General Hospital. Left to mourn her are her children, son Gene (Hildegarde) her daughter Shelly (Bill), Laverne (Alex) brothers, Mike and Bill (Barbara) and sister-in-law Leona. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her ten grandchildren, Linda (Denis), Lori, Lyanna (Dale), Elliott, Trevor (Bonnie), Everett, Susan, Ken (Carla), Patrick (Dara), Kevin (Karla) and eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband John; brother John; sister Nettie and two children, Richard and Phyllis Mom was born September 11, 1913 in Riverton, Man. She married John Obirek in February 1934 and together they raised five children. In 1954 they settled in East Selkirk, Man. In 1987 Mom left her East Selkirk home and moved into Red River Manor in Selkirk. With her failing health, Mom moved into the Betel Home in Selkirk in February of 2000. Mom loved her garden, but most of all she loved her family and enjoyed cooking and sending care packages. The pallbearers will be her five grandsons and son-in-law Alex. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 22 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, East Selkirk with Fr. Jerry Talarski officiating. A private family interment will follow in the East Selkirk Cemetery. Sincere thanks to the staff at the Betel Home for their kindness and care shown to our Mom and special thanks to the excellent nurses at the Selkirk General Hospital. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marys memory to the Manitoba Cancer Treatment and Research Foundation, 100 Olivia Street, Winnipeg, Man., R1A 9Z9.
