Audrey was born on January 31, 1910, at Elfros, Sask., the eighth child of the ten children of Icelandic Pioneers Thorbjorg and Timoteus Gudmundson. She grew up on the farm near Elfros, and attended school at Elfros and high school in Grand Forks, North Dakota, where she lived with her sister Freda Bjornson and her family. She moved to Winnipeg and lived with her sisters there until, in 1935, she married John V. Samson. Audrey and Johnny lived in Winnipeg on Dominion Street for nearly 40 years and were active members of the West End Community. Their home was filled with love and laughter. Audrey was a devoted Wife, Mother, Sister and Amma. For many years she was an active member of the Wellington Progressive Conservative Association and canvassed for the United Way and other charities. She and Johnny enjoyed summers at their cottage in Loni Beach with their family. "Sigga" was very proud of her Icelandic heritage, and told many stories of her prairie childhood in Saskatchewan. Audrey was predeceased by her husband John in 1974, and is survived by her three children, J. Timothy Samson (Eleanor) of Winnipeg, Margret Samson (David Lucas) of Victoria and Jeffrey V. Samson (Maureen) of Neepawa; as well as four grandchildren, John, Aquila, Catherine and Jennifer Samson; her younger sister Lara Nicol of Foam Lake, Sask.; sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and their families. The Samson family would like to thank the staff at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home for their care and kindness over the 16 years that Audrey was a resident there. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in memory of Audrey Samson to the charity of your choice.
