JOHN WALKER GRANT Peacefully, on January 18, 2001, John passed away with his family by his side, at Oakview Place Nursing Home. John was born in Kenora, Ont., to parents Charles and Jessie Grant on November 10, 1910. When his mother died in 1912, he and younger brother Jim lived briefly with an aunt in Winnipeg and then both were raised by two aunts in Perth, Ont., where he completed his schooling. Finding work scarce in the East, he came to Winnipeg and began employment with Winnipeg Electric Maintenance and Construction department in 1929. He retired as Electric Foreman with Manitoba Hydro at St. James after 46 years of service, in November 1975. John will be sadly missed by wife Irene; children, Leona Chomyshyn of Thunder Bay, Ont., Jessie (Bob) Duch of Redditt, Ont., Charles (Doreen) Grant of Winnipeg, Marie (John) Morris of Winnipeg and Dianne (Peter) Sellers of Winnipeg; also stepchildren, Arlene Bear of Winnipeg, Sandra (Dolphus) Houle of Keeseekoowenin, Man., and Bert Bone. He was predeceased by first wife Jemina in 1964 and brother Jim of Perth in January of 1998, stepson Bentley Bone in April of 1999. Dad will be remembered as a kind, mild-mannered and patient man. Among Dads interests was a love of nature, fine music, reading, especially geography and history, and compiling memorabilia in scrapbooks. Baptized in 1941 as one of Jehovahs Witnesses, Dad shared the hope of resurrection to a Paradise earth under Gods Kingdom by Christ Jesus. Revelation 21:3,4 John 5:28, 29. At Johns request cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, January 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Kingdom Hall Centre, 227 Lakewood Blvd., with T. W. Sellers officiating.
